Long pre-dawn exposure of Mt. Baker's northeast face. The Cascade Range blocks moisture from air streaming in from the Pacific so these mountains get more snow than anywhere else in North America. The summer sun isn't strong enough to melt all of it, so every year the ice builds up until it's heavy enough to begin sliding downhill.
